*Lee was quickly moved to his ship, which was nearby and also not near where the bounty hunters had docked. While Lee was being moved, he blacked out. His eyes slowly opened again, though everything was still fuzzy around him. He could hear machines, beeping noises, muffled voices and the like. Through his vision, he could tell he was in a small medbay. A cargo ship's medbay by the looks of it. Was he back on Deanna's ship he had borrowed? Lee didn't give it much thought. He quietly stopped squirming around and relaxed as he shut his eyes.*

*Once aboard, Vrook quickly finds his way to the small medbay and barks orders gruffly.*
"Alright, everyone out, and close the door as you leave. I'll take it from here."
*After a few beats he amends the order.*
"Actually no, Astefan, you stay. I might need you."
*Having said this, the Jedi Master proceeds to completely ignore the Arkanian, as he examines the battered Knight on the medcot. Vrook takes full advantage of the opportunity to try and get a clear reading of Lee through the Force. He cannot sense the presence of any dark spirits, but this does not really surprise him, as he is all too painfully aware of how Darth Talik had been able to mask his Force Signature and fool them all. Presumably in his weakened state it would be harder for Lee to maintain such a shield, but the elderly Jedi Master isn't taking any chances. Until he interrogates Lee about the holocron he cannot be sure.
Vrook inhales slowly and closes his eyes. Extending his hands over Lee's body, he sets about healing the burns and other injuries, a soft blue glow eminating from the parts of Lee's skin beneath Vrook's palms. For now he focuses only on the most critical areas, and does absolutely nothing to rejuvenate Lee other than that. If Lee is in fact possessed by the spirit of the Sith mystery holocron, it will be just as well if he remains tired and exhausted for the time being.*

*Lee had passed out in the medbay after he closed his eyes, allowing the machines in the medbay to do their job. After some time, the job they were intended to do seemed to work quicker than expected. After a few minutes, Lee awakens to the feeling of his body being healed in a more natural (or some might agree unnatural) way. He was being healed through the Force, his most critical injuries being the focus.
He slowly opened his eyes slowly and turned his head to see Vrook. His eyes grew wide with surprise and he wanted to immediately scream out of fear. He swore it was a nightmare. However the desire to scream fizzles out before he can even make a noise. He was still tired. Lee slowly shifts to a more comfortable position. He speaks, but it is in a very exhausted and weak tone.*
Oh dear Force, that's certainly not the first sight I'd want to see when I open my eyes. Unfortunantly it was.
*Lee notices Astefan in the room, but no one else. He had a clearer head now and could remember the events before, though at some points it was a blur. He speaks, directing what he says at Astefan.*
Did the rest of them make it? Where's my padawan?
*As weak as his voice was and as exhausted as he sounded, the concern in his voice was obviously there. This was also the first time he referred to Garrett directly as his padawan.*

*Lee's reaction upon coming to does absolutely nothing to alleviate Master Vrook's suspicions and concerns about whether or not Lee is possessed by the spirit of the anonymous Sith holocron. Rather to the contrary, actually. Vrook continues using Master Force Heal as though nothing has happened, but takes careful note of how Lee tenses up upon first seeing him and then mutters under his breath. That reaction is precisely the sort of thing he might reasonably expect if Lee is in fact possessed by a Sith spirit who had been caught off-guard by Vrook's presence. He can also sense Lee's initial fear, and Vrook can't see why any Jedi Knight should have any reason to fear him. A troublesome padawan would be a different story, but surely Lee has long since grown past that.
Still concentrating on the healing process with his eyes closed, Vrook answers for Astefan before the Arkanian has a chance to speak.*
"I sent Garrett out of the room. Tomias is outside the ship conversing with the Wookiee who was with you at the Praxeum."
*Vrook had in fact been mildly surprised upon arriving at the Praxeum to find a Wookiee in Lee's party. He presumes it likely that the Wookiee joined them during their stop on Kashyyyk, but whether Lee recruited him or the Wookiee asked to come along, and for what reason, Vrook does not know. Rather than ask about it, however, he acts as though nothing about the Wookiee is unusual. As mission commander it is perfectly within Lee's rights to exercise his own judgment in recruiting additional help or lending aid to someone who asked for it.*

*Lee's body relaxes a little more after hearing the others are safe.*
Good. Then everyone's safe.
*Lee gives a sigh of relief, pausing for a moment to allow himself to feel the effects of the healing. He could feel the pain being alleviated, though he was still just as tired. He felt it a bit odd that Vrook's healing wasn't getting rid of that exhausted feeling. Then again, Lee's knowledge of healing was very minimal. Aramis had taught him enough to do more on the field type healing, a quick patch up.
However, he thinks about it for a moment. Why was Vrook on Arkania? He never contacted the Jedi since his leave, though he had assumed to give a full mission briefing after the praxeum had been explored. Granted at this point it had been, but why was Master Vrook here?*
Why are you here Master Vrook? The Grand Master have you on fetching missions as well?
*Lee's humor probably wasn't helping the situation, though he did remember upon Master Ell's elevation to Grand Master he sent him to go fetch a number of people during the meeting. Alex would have gotten it, anyway. Astefan might have as well, since he was one of the ones Lee had to fetch.*

"Potentially."
*Vrook, feeling that Lee has been sufficiently healed for them to have the conversation he came to Arkania for, stops what he is doing and looks Lee in the eyes.*
"I am here because of you, Knight Katarn."
*Vrook has his game face on. At least, that's what he would call his sternest expression, but generations of padawans have though of it as his scary face. He says nothing more for the moment, pausing to regard Lee's reaction.*

*Lee blinks in confusion and finally utters what he had just thought.*
Me?
*Lee looks at Master Vrook's scary face. He remembered that well. He and Alex got that look a number of times during their days as students and padawans.*
Whoa! I swear I haven't been around lately to put any signs on your back. And whoever drew that derogatory picture in the public restroom was not me...this time, I swear!
*Lee had to try and think. He hadn't been around to cause any mischief. Heck, he didn't really cause any when he was around to begin with. Why was Master Vrook giving him that look? He remembered it was the same look he and Alex got when Vrook thought one of them had put that note on his back.*

*It has been years since someone dared to put that sign on his back, and Vrook is suddenly reminded that he never did figure out who had pulled that stunt. As for the derogatory picture in the public refresher, he had been unaware of that and will have to investigate it once he returns to the Telos Academy. But neither issue would have been worth traveling across the galaxy to deliver a reprimand or a punishment for. No, the issue at hand is far more serious than padawan pranks and shennanigans. Vrook crosses his arms, making him look even more stern and foreboding (if that is possible).*
"Yes, Katarn, you. A Sith Holocron was found hidden in your quarters back at the Academy. And I know you put it there because I sensed it on you during the Council meeting, though I didn't know what it was at the time. Care to explain where you got it, how long you've had it, and why you did not inform one of the Masters about it?"

*Lee gives a very confusing look as he hears those words. Sith holocron? He never recalled any incident with sith holocrons.*
Sith...holocron? Last time I even heard such a thing mentioned was our mission to Dantooine...where...
*Lee trails off, suddenly remembering something. He did have a holocron on him but it was unfinished. He had been in such a rush since Dantooine and now that he had pretty much forgotten all about the thing.*
I remember now.
*Lee looks over to Astefan, since he was there with him during the time he found it.*
We went to Dantooine to retake the Sith holocrons and put them in a safe place so that the Sith wouldn't discover them. During that time Astefan and I went into our former enclave on Dantooine to infiltrate it and shut down the power. I remember finding one sith holocron that wasn't complete and it was in your office.
We had been in such a rush after that to get back to Telos and then that big Council meeting that I was apart of that I totally forgot about it. Then after the meeting I was sent on this mission.
*Lee had a bad habit of forgetting things when he was in a rush and now he was cursing himself for not thinking about that holocron and telling the masters about it during the council meeting. Lee glanced over at Astefan to back his story.*

*Astefan starts to leave when Vrook enters and orders everyone out, but then Vrook amends the order. D'oh! Shutting the door as he was told, Astefan stands there in the corner where he will be as out of the way as possible in the small room. What could Vrook possibly need him for? But the notoriously grumpy old Jedi Master doesn't say anything else and the Arkanian is left to wait in silence. Presently, Lee stirs and comes to, prompting a smile from Astefan. He opens his mouth to answer his friend's question, but Vrook cuts him off and answers for him, so he shuts it again. Lee then asks the very question that Astefan had been wondering earlier.
Master Vrook's response is rather ominous.
Like his friend, Astefan at first is taken aback by Vrook's stated reason for coming here, which only raises the new question of what he wants with Lee. It definitely wasn't because of the "kick me" sign on Vrook's back. Astefan swallows guiltily, thankful that Vrook's attention is focused elsewhere. It may have been years ago, but he bets that if Vrook ever learned the identity of the person who had foolishly pulled that prank, the strict Jedi Master would probably demote them back down to padawan.
Astefan ransacks his brain to come up with a reason why Vrook would have come all the way out here just to give Lee the scary face, but then his breath catches in his throat when Vrook elaborates. At the mention of Sith Holocrons, he immediately remembers the one they had found. Lee still had that thing?! He waits for Lee to explain, and then as a good wingman he dutifully backs his friend up.*
"That's right, Master Vrook. That holocron wasn't one of the ones from Master Atris's stash - we found it on a workbench in what used to be the Enclave. I guess we thought it was mostly harmless since it looked unfinished, but we saw no reason to let it get completed and so we swiped it. I had kinda forgotten about it too, what with getting knighted right after reuniting with the Order and all. Plus I figured that he would have already turned it over by the time I got back, though there was also that thing with Alderaan, so I can't blame him for not remembering to tell you guys."

"But it was NOT harmless. Master Ell and I examined the holocron, and concluded that it was probably complete except for whatever inscription or decorative elements its creator had intended to add. Be truthful with me, Katarn - did you ever try to access the holocron?"

*Lee shakes his head. In a tone that was completely serious, Lee answered Master Vrook.*
No, I didn't.
*He slowly gets to where he can sit up on the bed. He was exhausted, but he had enough strength to sit up.*
Just out of curiousity, how did you find the holocron in my quarters? Astefan and I sensed no presence or anything from it. That's why we thought it incomplete and not of any danger other than should it be completed.

"You sensed nothing from it? Nothing at all? Because I sensed it on you during the Council meeting, though I did not know what it was at the time. And we found it because one of our... newest arrivals sensed its presence in your room and told us what he'd found."
*Vrook chooses not to mention Brandon at this time. That would only distract Astefan and Lee from the more pressing matter at hand.*

Newest arrival? This one just happened to stumble upon it in my room? Sensed it had a presence when I could not? That doesn't sound like some raw Jedi Initiate to me.

"No, he is not THE newest, as I believe we had another on their way in when I left. Though you are correct, the sentient who found it and brought it to our attention is hardly a raw initiate. But how the holocron came to be found in your quarters is less important right now than the fact that you had it there to begin with. I don't think either of you understand the seriousness of this! Do we need to start having a special Defense Against the Dark Arts course for our padawans, in which we teach them how dangerous Sith Holocrons can be, and what to do with it should they find one? If you were carrying that thing around for awhile Katarn, you could have been affected by it without even realizing it!"

*Astefan clears his throat to make a point that Lee should have thought to make, but didn't.*
"With all due respect, Master Vrook, we do understand the danger. But to be fair, there were still a number of Sith running around Dantooine at the time. Any bad juju that thing was giving off would have been drowned out by the stronger Force signatures of the nearby Dark Jedi. Not to mention that Lee and I helped move - well, in the end, it was more like rearrange - the collection of Sith Holocrons stashed in the kinrath caves, and so we are both well aware of the kind of vibe a proper Sith Holocron gives off. I assure you, Master, we did not sense anything from this holocron like we did from the other ones. Also, you probably had hoped to talk to me about Lee privately, but I can tell you right now that I'll vouch for him. I'm pretty sure he hasn't said or done anything strange or suspicious or... un-Lee-like while on this mission."

*Vrook turns to focus his game face on Astefan, but admittedly the Arkanian makes a good point. However, the elderly Jedi Master is still pretty certain that someone somewhere is pulling the wool over his eyes, and he can't help but remember that both Macillan and Katarn had each spent a long period of time away from the Jedi Order in which they could have been doing or studying Force knows what. But it is also possible that they are simply naive, a bit foolish, and insufficiently experienced, and/or that Vrook is just being overly pessimistic. If the latter is actually the case for once, and it turns out that the holocron was not all that dangerous after all, he will be greatly relieved.*
"I see. You are both absolutely certain that this is a brand-new, barely-complete holocron, and that it is not simply an unusually anonymous one? The knowledge of how to create a holocron is nearly a lost art, after all. Seeing that there were no identifying markings on it, was there anything where you found it that indicated who might have created the holocron?"

*Astefan glances at his friend Lee.*
"Well, the improvised workbench we found it on still had some tools laying there for detailed craftwork, as well as what appeared to be some unused materials for holocron components. It was all put away though, like someone was ready to move on to the next step or had just done so, now that I think about it. But Darth Bandon was the head Sith honcho the entire time I was in hiding on Dantooine, and it makes sense that he would take over your old office, where we found it."
*Astefan doesn't say it, but that's what he would have done if he were Bandon. Taking over a revered Jedi Master's office and turning it into a darkside den would be a great way to spite them and spit in their face.*
"Also I can easily picture him being desperate to leave behind some kind of legacy. He's one of the highest-ranked Sith and thinks a lot of himself, even though the other Sith don't always take him seriously. I'd bet my entire next paycheck - assuming, of course, that Jedi actually GOT paychecks - that Darth Baldy created that one."

*Lee raised an eyebrow tirelessly at Master Vrook's statement.*
Important in my book if I couldn't sense anything from it and it was in my room. And I think you underestimate me, Master Vrook. A dark arts defense class for padawans? I have a padawan, but I am one no longer. Though I believe my own opinion biased, you would disrespect Astefan if you believe the holocron may have affected me without realizing it.
I feel no different, and Astefan has supported that. However, if you need further proof, there are three more among my group willing to testify I'm no sith lord.
*Lee's attention is turned toward Astefan when he mentions Bandon.*
Yes, we encountered Bandon before. Master Shim and Master Shan both hit him with a double dose of Force Light. I remember researching the technique and what it was used for. Though before we could note any significant change, there was a cave collapse, as we had been fighting in the Dantooine cave network, and we presumed he either died during the cave in or escaped.
We never saw him again after the encounter. The holocron we took wasn't a complete one and certainly didn't feel ancient. It was set apart from the rest of them as it was in your office, that Astefan believes Bandon took over. There were tools and such but no identifying markings on it. Considering it was in a different location entirely and had no markings, making it incomplete, I can say without a doubt that it was a new one. Take into account that Bandon is a very experienced sith lord as well. Lost art or no, it can be safely assumed that Bandon has the knowledge necessary to create a sith holocron.

*Vrook's eyes narrow at Astefan's confident assertion that the holocron was created by Darth Bandon, and he hardly hears anything of what Lee says as the gears turn furiously in his head. Darth Bandon had learned how to make a holocron? Unexpected, yet unsurprising, as it is not beyond the man's capabilities. But knowing the creator of the holocron puts Brandon's actions in a whole new light, and Vrook's mind scrambles to reassess his evaluation of the situation and of Brandon's motives. Something about this doesn't make sense.
The elderly Jedi Master shakes his head and focuses first on the known facts:
1) The subtle, scheming approach has never been Darth Bandon's style, not even when he was Brandon. It was this fact in particular that had gone a long way towards convincing Vrook of Brandon's sincerity.
2) The holocron is Darth Bandon's, yet there is no way he could have planted it in Lee's room or even known he could expect to find it there, as attested to by Lee and Astefan.
3) Brandon willingly turned his own holocron over to the Jedi Masters, while pointedly neglecting to mention that he had created it. He had to have recognized his own handiwork, so he must have feared that including that detail would have jeopardized his chances of being accepted.
For the most part, these facts would all seem to indicate that Brandon has been telling the truth about his intentions. There's no way Brandon could have planned this whole thing out, so at worst he's just making the best of an unexpected situation. Also, Lee and Astefan are confident that the holocron was incomplete, and therefore there would have been no spirit guardian inside to... Wait. Vrook pauses, considering a sudden troubling theory. Assuming Brandon really had been sincere when he first came before the Council, what would have happened when he'd come in contact with his own holocron? Could the spirit inside have quickly restored Brandon to what he'd been before? The fact that it was his own essence would certainly have explained how Brandon had sensed it so easily inside of Lee's room... Alternatively, if his exposure to Force Light had not completely purged him of the dark side, but instead confined it to a small, unaccessible kernel of something inside him, or merely cut him off or walled him off from his connection to it... contact with the holocron perhaps could have restored it to him.
But if that were the case, why turn the holocron over to the Jedi Masters? Why not keep it? Well, for much the same reason as if his intentions were good, actually - to earn their trust. Master Vrook reels slightly at the implications of this train of thought, and fervently hopes that Bastila and Qual won't get to tell him "I told you so."
He abruptly turns on his heel, smacks the controls to open the door, and bolts through it and down the corridor while calling over his shoulder.*
"I must contact Telos! We can talk more afterwards."

*Lee blinks rapidly as Vrook suddenly dashes out of the medbay and speaks of contacting Telos. He glances over to Astefan with a "WTF" look on his face.*
I didn't know Master Vrook could move so fast.
*He slowly shifts his weight around to edge himself off the bed of the small medbay.*
I guess I better go check on the others and let them know Master Vrook didn't eat me alive.
*Lee gave a grin, letting his longtime friend know he was joking as always. Lee slowly gets to his feet and begins walking out of the medbay and towards the boarding ramp of the ship. Master Vrook had done a fine job of healing him, though he did nothing to relieve his exhaustion. This meant that Lee would feel tired until he had gathered his strength from a well earned rest or did something to revitalize his stamina.
Noting the boarding ramp was already lowered, Lee looked down the ramp. He could hear voices. One of them was his wookiee friend's translator. It was easily recognizable to him. Another sounded Arkanian. Tomias? Nah. It sounded too old and different for him. Lee sighed. There was no telling what trouble his crew could get themselves into. Not that Lee had any room to talk. His won track record was a slap to his face in that regard. Lee exited the ship, stepping on the grounds of the Adascopolis Docking Port they were at.*

"Huh."
*He shares a what-the-kark look with Lee.*
"How peculiar. What do you suppose that was about?"
*The question is mostly rhetorical, and the Arkanian stares thoughtfully at the empty doorway while trying to puzzle out what had been said in the conversation that would make the Jedi Master be in such a rush to place a call back to the Academy. After a few moments he shrugs and follows in the direction Lee has gone, thinking it would have been funnier if he had gone outside first and made up a story about how Master Vrook was lecturing Lee to death.*

Not wanting to interrupt Tomias waits until Master Vrook is done with his conversation before he speaks up. Tomias bows to Master Vrook and speaks.*
Excuse me Master Vrook. I was asked by Lee and Astefan to let you know that they have went off on an investigation to the Adascorp Headquarters. An Arkanian Scientist from there came and asked for Lee by name. Lee, Garret, and Astefan have went with the Arkanian to investigate whatever situation has transpired there.

Post by Taloombray on Jul 19, 2011 23:50:34 GMT -5
*Taloombray made his way to his dormitory in the ship once he re-boarded. Once there, he sat on his bunk and pulled his bowcaster off its hook on his bandolier. The damage was not hard to identify. He had indeed broken it by laying on it when the dragon had knocked him over. Luckily the piece that was broken was NOT the bow portion itself, but the piece which held the bow in place. That he could fix. Had the bow snapped, however, he thought it unlikely he would be able to find the appropriate wood off Kashyyyk.* *Having no real time or inclination to fix it now, Taloombray set his weapon on his bunk. The fixing of things was best left for hyperspace trips and similar waiting periods. For now he needed to be armed and able to protect the ship in more than just a melee manner. He had seen what passed for the small ship's armory during his earlier exploration of the vessel and knew there was at least one standard blaster rifle to be had. He would miss his familiar cultural weapon, but the blaster replacement would be sufficient. And the old soldier knew from past experience that a Wookiee in armor wearing or holding a large, easily identifiable weapon was usually more than enough to deter all but the most intent on disaster. Though it was sometimes irritating, his species' reputation made for an excellent bluff that few chose to call.* *Taloombray was about to leave when he paused, looking at the footlocker at the end of his bunk. Though the flag was what caught his eye, it was as though he was looking though it and into the locker. He moved to crouch beside the locker, pushed the side the flag and opened the top. After a moment of looking at the small metal plant sculpture sitting in the corner of the container, the Wookiee lifted it out, closed the locker and set the little thing on the lid.* *Though far from finely made, the sculpture was a dutiful representation of a wroshyr sapling. Admittedly, an actual wroshyr sapling appearing like the sculpture would have been several meters tall, but the little metal plant was barely 9 inches tall, reminiscent of a sapling of a small domestic plant. After several minutes of examining it — turning it, touching the metal leaves, thinking wistfully of its lost creator — Taloombray took out one of his ryyyk blades. Holding the blade carefully as he thumbed on the vibro element, he pulled the sculpture towards him, peering at the reflective foliage.* *Like a practiced gardener tending a dwarfed show plant, Taloombray selected one of the sculpted leaves. Deftly using the weapon as a precision tool, the old soldier clipped off one of the larger leaves from the metal branches. The leaf made a ringing clink as it fell to the top of the foot locker. The look of the little plant was not marred at all as there were a number of broken leaf stalks sculpted into it originally. With little difficulty, Taloombray put a small hole in the base of the leaf. The metal used to make the sculpture was native Kashyyyk metal — something exceedingly rare in high quality — and was thereby soft. A replacement bowcaster string fed through the hole and tied off made the little metal leaf into a mobile reminder of his lost mate's iconic gift to him.* *Before he put his spur-of-the-moment memorial jewelry, Taloombray decided the scarf needed to come off/out. He stuck the string in his mouth and examined the mess the melted scarf had caused. Upon closer inspection, he realized — much to his annoyance — that his hope of being able to comb it out was not a possibility. With a growling sigh, he gathered up the scarf, pulled it out as far as he could away from his neck, again pulled out one of his ryyyk blades, and quickly cut the melted mess out of his mane. What was left of his mane was now even more lopsided than it had been. It would take some time before his pride (in the form of his coat) was back to normal.* *Now satisfied with his immediate situation, Taloombray made his way to the armory and grabbed the item which brought him onboard in the first place. He made his way off the True Cake with the blaster rifle and took up a guard position at the foot of the docking ramp.*
