*Lee was just reading over where Tomias' signal was currently being traced to when it cut out.*
Sithspit! Our mandalorian friends must have wised up.
*He looks over to Astefan.*
Do me a huge favor. Trace the last known cooridinates that signal was coming from. Plot a course there and get us there. I'm going to have a talk with....with....my padawan. That's going to be a fun idea to get use to.
*Lee walks from the cockpit to where Garrett is.*
So. Garrett...*Lee takes a seat.* I guess we should probably start this thing off right. I know I was pretty blunt with the presentation that you're my new padawan. Truth be told. This whole being a master to someone is going to be something I'm going to have to get use to. Tell me. Where have you been since you disappeared until now? What's your story?

*As Lee asks this garret goes to the fresher to get the blood washed off*
Since Kale closed her academy? Well that devastated me. That combined with the Sith taking Kuat made me feel as though I had know home. So like a child I ran away, and made my way to Nar Shadaa. I did odd jobs there for various groups. I was mostly an errand boy for a lot of the smugglers. Eventually I picked up smoking tabacc because it made you stand out less if you had to wait somewhere. Then as I was around the spice that was being smuggled I delved into.
*he drys himself and puts on the clean robes then walks over to Lee*
I liked it. It was like nothing else. It was like... like what I pictured force enlightenment would feel like. Then one day I noticed another force signature, and decided to take a gamble on finding out who it was. *smiles* Turns out it was Tomias, and then we arrived on Onderon right when shitt hit the fan with the mandos.

*Lee listens to Garrett intently as he speaks of what he's been doing all this time. Lee nods his head.*
I've never lost my home planet to the enemy. But hearing about Dantooine, about everything that happened after I left. It felt like when I suddenly reappeared, the whole galaxy had been twisted upside down and I didn't know if I could ever help piece it together.
*Lee thinks back when Kali picked him up, all the news he heard, the things that transpired.*
But the Force seems to find a way of fixing things a single person can't. And it helps to have friends.
*Lee shakes his head, thinking of the mandalorians.*
I can't say I know what's going on. Last I remember, we were on really good terms with the mandalorians. I was even friends with Mandalore himself and recieved some training from him. He'd occassionally teach us at the Enclave on Dantooine. I guess things really have changed since I've been gone. It still surprises me to think I haven't caught up with everything that's going on nowadays.
*He looks up at Garrett then stands.*
By the way you looked when we first met, you obviously didn't fair well against a mandalorian. Tell me. Do you think you learned anything from fighting them?

*Lee grins and shakes his head.*
Obviously. From the beat down it looks like they gave you.
*He looks around then begins moving.*
Follow me.
*Lee moves to the most open area of the ship, the cargo hold. It was roomy enough to do any sort of training they wished. Which was good. They'd need it.*
We obviously need to get you back in shape then. *He grins* Or else you won't be much good in a fight. Tell me. Which forms are you most familiar with as far as lightsaber technique goes?

Shii- Cho would be my most proficent. I've trained with my off hand some as well since things like this do indeed happen *waves around his handless arm*
I've also studied makashi a bit and some shien.

*Lee nods as he speaks of Shii-Cho. It was the basic form that most Jedi learned as students. It made sense. It was a general form and the oldest of the forms.*
Shii-Cho is good for multiple opponents and a good fallback when no other form seems to work. But it doesn't need to be the only proficient tool in your pocket. The form Makashi is good for single opponents, going saber to saber. I just don't see it fitting our purposes for this mission, but I promise we'll get to it eventually. Because inevitably, it will be a form you must know.
*Lee stroked his chin in thought. There didn't seem to be a specific form he could think of. But there was one that would probably do in getting Garrett back into shape.*
Form V. It's a form that requires strength. By learning it, we should manage to get you into shape quick enough. It's not the best against single opponents, but it does well deflecting blaster fire, which I suspect we'll get alot of. It also doesn't sacrifice counter attacking like certain forms would.
I'm hoping that with the strength it requires to use this form, the mandalorians will find you a tougher opponent next go around. Now just to cover other areas, I will use the second form, Makashi, to battle your form V. While using the fifth form, I also want you to pay attention to how I use Makashi. I know that sounds like alot at once, but if you're going to wield a lightsaber you need to learn to watch your opponent's movements in battle and use it to your advantage.
And as I said earlier, with Shien, you won't sacrifice your ability to counter attack. So should you find any openings, you won't be rendered in that regard. Granted, Shien isn't best utilized against a single opponent so you'll also be compensating for that as well. Are we clear on everything?

*Garrett listens intently and then ignites his lightsaber*
Yes I understand Master.
*He drops into a Shien opening stance, holding his arms out slightly at an angle to be more ready to counter his opponent*

*Lee watches as Garrett drops into the Shien stance. That was very good. He must have atleast studied on the form.*
Most impressive. And here I thought I'd have to give you a quick rundown of the form, but it seems you'll have the basics of this form. Before we really begin, remember three things. Learn the form, watch your opponent, and learn to compensate for Shien's particular weakness.
*Lee notes as Garrett holds Lee's offhand silver lightsaber that he should really try and see if he can get Garrett to make a new saber during their missions. They had a long road ahead of them. They still had to find Tomias. By the time they finally find him, they'd be off to Arkania. Even if Garrett did manage to get his original saber back, it'd be good for him to have a spare.*
With that said, let's begin.
*Lee ignites his primary silver lightsaber and does a makashi salute to Garrett. Practically on instinct, Lee wanted to have the first attack. He hadn't really been in a teaching position like this before. He fought back the instinct, knowing Garrett had to have the first attack so he could study if his new padawan had the basic fighting style of Shien down. Garrett would learn to attack with it first, then learn to defend with it. Offense before defense.*
The first attack is yours. I need to make sure you know how to impliment the Shien fighting style before you try to defend with it. It's a new form, so you need to get the feel of it and understand the necessary strength it requires to wield it.

As you wish Master
*Garrett bows and then does a few wrist loosening swings to the side, trying to get a better feel for this saber, he then returns to the Shien stance his right leg behind him and his saber raised above he his head and back at an angle. He takes a few deep breaths, then as his breathing levels back out he pushes forward with his right leg and brings his blade down towards Lee in a powerful, but a bit un-fluid motion*

*Lee watches Garrett's motion, noting his stance and how he follows through. It was a good effort for his first try. However, Lee quickly blocks his attack and swats the blade to the side. It lacked that fluid motion that would allow Garrett to go from attack to another attack, attack to defense, or even defense to counter. He expected his use of it would be raw and he'd need to smooth him out.*
Good first try. But you lacked the ability to flow. Form V requires you to deflect multiple blaster bolts from multiple opponents. It requires that you not give up your ability to counter attack. With fluidity you are able to transition to various attacks, fall back to defense, counter, go from defense to attack.
*Lee readies himself one more time.*
Come at me again. We keep doing this step until your swing has perfect motion to allow you to transition to your next move.

Yeah, that didn't feel quite right. I need to loosen up a bit more.
*he steps back again and goes back into his opening stance*
::Think loose, loose like a cheap Nar Shadaa whore::
*Garrett performs the opening attack again. It was less intense but it was cleaner*

*Garrett tries his first swing again. The motion was more fluid now, but as Lee raised his saber to block, he swatted the blade away again, but with greater ease. He could tell Garrett sacrificed some of the power he had last time for the swing to make the motion more fluid.*
No, that's not right either. This time you sacrificed the power you need for this form to have the fluidity you need for it.
*It seemed so far that Garrett could only focus on only one of these aspects at a time with this form. But it wasn't a huge roadblock. Infact, it was a fairly common obstacle to get past when learning this form. With any luck, however, if Garrett could learn to utilize both aspects at the same time, he'd have a good grip on how to use Form V. Often times it only took getting past one problem to get a basic understanding of a form.*
Before you come at me again, think on how each aspect felt. Your first attempt had the power necessary behind it. I want you to remember how it felt. Then think of the motions of your second attempt and how clean and flowy it felt. Remember both these aspects, think on them, and when you think you have a feel for both of them, come at me again.
*Lee waits in a ready stance for Garrett to come at him again.*

*Garrett deactivates his lightsaber and clips it to his belt*
One moment master.
*He proceeds to do a number of upper body stretches in order to loosen his muscles more. After stretching he redraws and ignites the silver saber. Assuming the same Shien stance as before he waits for Lee to ready himself again. Then he pushes off harder with his back leg for more momentum while swinging the blade down towards his master in a strong fluid motion*

*Lee blocks the third attempt. Impressive. Most impressive. It was still rough, but he felt both elements in play. Still, he knew Garrett needed to get a feel for what he just did. But still, he hadn't expected Garrett to get it right that quickly.*
Good. Rough, but good. Now, come at me again the same way. We'll keep doing this until I feel like you have a good grasp on it. Now, remember what that felt like and come at me again.
*Lee readies his blade again for Garrett to attack him.*

Can do Master.
*Garrett re-readies himself and attacks again, and again. Keeping in mind both aspects of the form. He knew that getting this first strike right was vital to learning this form. It suited his tall stature well, but he would need to put on some weight to truly take advantage of this form*

*Lee blocks the hit yet again. Each time he blocked, he made Garrett call off the initial attack and would shout again. After a good number of strikes, Lee pushes off Garrett's blow for the last time and takes a step back.*
Good. Remember the initial attack with this form is key. Because it gives you the feel of how strength and fluidity combine into one form. It shows you how you'll utilize your body and how you will attack, or how you will defend, or how you will counter.
Now that you know the initial attack. I'm going to show you from that point and beyond how the form is utilized. Having a feel for it already, you should be able to see why this form is working the way it is and make more sense of why I'm moving the ways that I am and why the form requires these moves from me. Now stand back.
*Lee waits for Garrett to start moving away and does the same, taking steps back. He looks around the cargo hold, measuring how great the space is again. It was sufficient enough. Atleast Lee wasn't teaching him the fourth form. That'd require something more than the cargo hold.*
*Lee readies with his dominant foot back and his saber where it needs to be. He steps forward with the blade and swings down hard and clean. But then he moves to swing the blade back up and then side to side, stepping into his swings when necessary and showing off the swinging motion needed. The combination of stepping into his strikes and strong, fluid swings would provide the necessary power to redirect blasterfire cleanly back at his opponents.*
*With the demonstration over, Garrett looks over to Lee.*
Now do what I just did. Feel free to be more fluid and make the actions your own. You don't have to follow what I did to the letter. But you need to utilize the principles of this form. Once I feel you've sufficiently mastered this part, we'll move to the next step of your training.

*Garrett does as he's told, and focuses all of his attention on his master. He watches when he leans into is attacks, and begins to to understand the goal of this form: to overpower your opponent. He also realized why he was using form II, Makashi. It was the polar opposite of form V. Everything was beginning to make sense now. When Lee told him to practice the form on his own he simply nodded, and began doing so.
He started off with the same opening attack that he had been practicing. Imagining it hitting a lightsaber, he then slides his blade along the imaginary one to continue this false offensive*

*Lee watches Garrett and nods approvingly. As he had thought, making Garrett get a good feel of the opening stance then having Garrett watch him was going to be the best method of getting Garrett to learn how to use it quickly. Quickly, because they didn't have a whole lot of time to learn the form methodically. At the pace Garrett was going, Lee could probably teach him the other version of Form V, which focused more on overpowering your opponent and pressing the attack. It was perfect for saber battles, and even opponents that used blades that could stand against lightsabers. But it wasn't the version Lee wanted Garrett to start with. He'd need to know this one better.*
*Lee remembered his fights with mandalorians. He had even recieved some training under Mandalore himself, a good friend of the Jedi and was often seen at the old Dantooine Enclave back in his days as a student. In Garrett's current condition with his broken mechanical hand, Lee knew his padawan couldn't afford to get in a brawl with him. There was the possibility of going blade to blade. But Lee was banking on the fact these mandalorians would just as soon pull out a blaster and fire on you. Blasters were the most likely weapon they'd come across on this mission.*
Very good. You're a quick study. This is going to make this learning on the fly much easier because we're pressed for time and can't do this slowly. Tell you what. Take five, and I'll have a chat with our arkanian friend. The kitchen area isn't hard to find, I'd suggest some water and maybe a little something to snack on in the meantime.
*Lee turns to Astefan who had been watching after Garrett is dismissed for a break.*
Want to help out in the training department?

*Astefan stops surfing the holonet and slides over to the communications board to do as Lee had asked. It takes him a few minutes to figure out how to do it on this particular ship console, but once he familiarizes himself with the controls he is able to program the ship computer to trace the signal. After several minutes, the computer displays an estimate of the last known location of the signal - it appears to have ceased transmitting near Zeltros.
Huh. Granted, he doesn't know much about the situation surrounding the Jedi they are trying to rescue, but Astefan would bet money that their comrade's captors aren't stopping at the infamous party planet. Which is too bad, because Lee would no doubt love any excuse to go there himself. The Arkanian toggles the screen to zoom out to a larger view of that section of the galaxy and studies it. It's quite possible that their quarry is headed for Commenor, or at least that they will have to make a stop there.
Well, they might as well drop into orbit around Zeltros to check for anything, and then recalculate for Commenor. Astefan has not had much experience flying a ship, but it can't be that hard, right? Besides, most Corellian models are fairly user-friendly. Would be nice if there was a ship manual laying around that he can consult to be sure he knows what he's doing, but from what Astefan remembers of Deanna, she isn't likely to have kept something like that.
After using a bit of common sense and trial and error in combination with what he had learned from Bhob, the Arkanian is able to successfully plot a hyperspace jump to Zeltros. He pulls the lever, and staaarliiiiiiiiiiiiiiines! Whoosh! He has always thought that the initial jump into hyperspace is the most exciting part of space travel.
Especially because actually being IN hyperspace is pretty boring. He goes back to the cargo bay to see what Lee and Garrett are up to, and leans against a bulkhead well out of their way to watch.
He analyzes Garrett's fighting style, and deduces that his non-mechanical hand must also be his off hand. In spite of that, the guy doesn't seem to be doing half bad. Training to be ambidexterous is great, but if Garrett is doing this well now, he'll be even better when he can use his dominant hand again. The Arkanian is busy planning out to build the new mechanical hand for Garrett when Lee gives his padawan a break and interrupts him with a question. Astefan raises an eyebrow.*
"Maybe. What do you have in mind?"

*Garrett deactivates the lightsaber*
Hitting up the kitchen sounds like the best idea I've heard all day.
*He smiles and makes his way into the kitchen to construct a meal fit for a king-- a sandwich! He takes great pride in his sandwich making abilities, and when he has completed it he marvels at it's beauty momentarily before taking the first bite and moseying back to the cargo hold. He notices Astefan and Lee talking to each other and decides to walk over to them*
*Taking a bite of this amazing sandwich he asks*
So what's next?

*Lee watches Garrett leave, then turns back to Astefan as he asks what he has in mind.*
As you've no doubt noticed, I'm training Garrett in Form V, Shien in particular. I figure we need more concentration in it because we aren't as likely to come across blade to blade combat as we are to be shot at. Since Shien is built for multiple opponents using blasters...mind grabbing a couple stun pistols, low setting, and fire away at him? He needs to get a good feel for redirecting blaster fire.
*He looks from Astefan to Garrett as his padawan approaches with a sandwich. he grins and shakes his head.*
What's next is you finishing that sandwich, then we put you in a situation Shien was meant to be used for.

"Sure, that could be fun as well as educational."
*Astefan strolls over to the weapons locker and selects two blaster pistols, checking the charge on both of them and making sure to thumb them down to their lowest stun settings. He then walks back to where Garrett is finishing up his sandwich, and twirls one blaster in each hand as if to illustrate Lee's last statement.*

Sound's like a plan then.
*He finishes his meal as he watches Astefan twirl his blasters*
You can actually shoot worth a damn right?
