"Hey, just because you've never seen me pick up a chick doesn't mean I can't. Chicks dig intelligent guys."
*Of course he can pick up chicks, though granted he had largely quit trying to after joining the Order. But then came her. With a conversation like this, it was inevitable that Astefan's thoughts would turn to Rhia. He had never told her how he really felt, and now he didn't even know if she is still alive!*

Awe man I'm not saying you can't. I'm just saying I've been hanging out in bars for a while and I've learned a thing or two.
*He looks over to his master*
Speaking of picking up women, how is Monica?

*Lee grins when Astefan responds back. He didn't think Astefan was incapable of picking up chicks, but the arkanian knew Lee was just ribbing him. He's about to respond with that mischivious grin on his face when Garrett suddenly asks him a question. A question Lee didn't know the answer to. It was like he had taken a punch to the gut and the wind was knocked out of him.*
*How was Monica? He really wished he knew. She was the one person in this entire galaxy he wished he could find, but hadn't found her yet. She could have just gotten herself lost somewhere...like so many others did. That's what he was hoping for anyway. But then again...Lee wanted to shy away from that next thought. Didn't Allia mention something about offing her or something like that? Lee just assumed she was bluffing. He needed to think she was bluffing. If she really had...Lee didn't think he could be a Jedi for much longer.*
*He clinches his fist and drops his head down.*
I...I don't know. I'm going to check the...thing in the...thing.
*Lee walked off from the two. It was a subject he was actively avoiding. He didn't know what happened to Monica and it was eating him up inside. He had left her...he had left everyone else...but he had left her. It was something he couldn't forgive himself for. Too much emotion attached to that one subject. It's partly why Lee had been drinking so obsessively as he had. He wanted to drown those things away and hide behind a bottle. Lee wanted one now. Darn it all for clearing out all the liquir from this ship!*
*Lee sat in the cockpit, slumping into the pilot's chair. So many years ago...so many painful memories. He wished so desperately he could have changed the past. He wished he could remember why he even left in the first place. All he remembers is leaving her and the next thing he knew, he was Freedon's newest recruit. He was drawn to the dark side somehow. Something had gotten him to that point...something made him Freedon's favorite lacky. He just wished he knew!*
*All he could remember was escaping...escaping within an inch of his life. He then exiled himself on Ilum and eventually was found by Kali Black, the Jedi Exile. And here he was. But what made him turn...what made him leave...were two questions he had no answer for. And now Monica was nowhere to be found. Lee hated himself for it.*

*Astefan is expecting to have to defend himself from further ribbing, but instead Garrett asks a harmless yet painful question. The Arkanian glances immediately at his friend, hoping that maybe he knows something that Astefan does not. After all, Astefan had been out of the loop on Dantooine for awhile. But the look on Lee's face says it all, and Astefan winces sympathetically. He had known Monica a long time, even longer than he had known Lee. Even though he never had any romantic interest in her, she had been one of his closest friends and so he feels some of Lee's pain.
Lee's jovial mood instantly disintegrates and he walks off to the cockpit. Astefan turns to Garrett, looking somewhat depressed himself.*
"Don't blame yourself - you couldn't have known."

*Garrett observes his master change from being extremely light-hearted to being incredibly sad, and although Lee doesn't really say anything he says it all*
Yeah, I guess there's a lot I still don't know. Should I check on him?

Tell me about yourself then Astefan.

"Aheh. There's not too much to tell that you couldn't learn from anyone else."
*Not that much that he has any intention of telling, anyway. Astefan doesn't talk about his family or about his home planet. In fact, Monica had been the only Jedi he had confided in on the subject. He hadn't even talked to Master Ell about his family. He suspects that the Jedi Masters might have guessed or learned some of it without talking to him, though.*
"Umm, Monica and I were the first ones to show up when the Jedi Enclave reopened its doors - Lee and Alex came soon after. So I've been around awhile. One of the infamous first four members of the newest generation of Jedi - no doubt you've heard some of the stories. But after I was rescued from the clutches of Darth Bastila, I began to have... well, an identity crisis I guess. Things that had happened while I was her prisoner caused me to start having doubts and question myself. So I sorta went AWOL for awhile in a journey to find myself and to figure out exactly what my views are on the Force. But apparently the Jedi Masters consider my entire absence to have been my Trial of the Spirit, because as soon as I showed up again earlier today, they knighted me on the spot."
*It suddenly occurs to him that it's a bit odd how he's willing to discuss his journey of self-discovery but not his family. But then the ship shudders slightly as it drops out of hyperspace.*
"We must have arrived. Wait here, I'll go check on Lee."
*Astefan goes up the cooridor to the cockpit and finds his friend slumped in the pilot's chair.*
"You gonna be alright, man?"

*Lee looked out the viewport before him. They had just dropped out of hyperspace. Lee looked at the planet now before him. Zeltros. Just as he was probably going to go drift back into his thoughts, Astefan interrupted him. He looked up at the arkanian and shrugged.*
It's just hard to think sometimes. I was gone. Completely...totally...gone. Vanished. For a couple of years. And I can't even remember why.
*He shook his head and folded his arms over his chest as he looked out at the planet.*
Astefan, you two were best friends. I know you get it. ...or you think you do.
*Lee sighs. Trying to think again. But it just wasn't coming to him. Parts of his memory seemed completely gone. Erased entirely.*
I left the one girl who I swore was my entire universe...and I can't even remember why. And now that I'm back, I can't even hope to make it right because I don't know where she's at.
*Lee pauses then slams his fists on the dashboard infront of him.*
Much less if she's even alive. It's killing me inside, Astefan. Not knowing why I left, not knowing where she's at. And kark it all if I wasn't trying my best to avoid this subject entirely.
*Lee raises his fists from the dashboard and then flexes his hands and folds them back behind his head.*
It's not Garrett's fault. I'm not stupid enough to blame him. Or anyone. *Shaking his head.* If anything, I blame myself.

"Well, it wasn't a subject you would have been able to avoid forever anyway."
*Just like you won't be able to ignore your family connections forever, says a small voice in Astefan's head. He ignores the voice.*
"I'm here for you anytime you want to talk about it. Like you said, she and I were best friends, and I miss her too. Until Garrett brought it up, I didn't even know that she is still among the missing."
*He refuses to consider the possibility that she might not still be alive. Instead he is silent for a moment, remembering fondly the good old days when the three of them and Alex had been padawans together.*
"I know Master Vrook didn't approve of your relationship, but even he would say that it's better to talk about these things than to keep them bottled up inside of you."

Post by Lee Katarn on Jan 29, 2011 3:46:28 GMT -5
*Lee looked over his shoulder to Astefan at the mention of Master Vrook.*
Yeah. And I boldly proclaimed Monica and I could handle it. I hate to admit Master Vrook being right. But it's this moment in time that makes me wonder. It makes me wonder if maybe I shouldn't have acted on what I felt with Monica. Maybe she'd be better off. Maybe she'd still be around, not...lost.
*It was a hard pill to swallow, acknowledging you were to blame. But it was a pill Lee was swallowing.*
If I atleast knew why I left...maybe that'd make this whole thing better. But to know you love someone....love them with all your heart...then just leaving and not knowing why you left them.
*Lee unfolds his arms, leans forward and places his face in his hands.*
And it's not like I even left on some epic adventure, like some Jedi have done. The next thing I remember...I had fallen to the dark side. I don't even remember how that happened. My memories feel like they were just completely wiped out, like I'm part droid or something.
*Lee rubs his face then holds his chin in his hands, looking at the planet again.*
But I can remember after that...oddly enough. I remember the wrong things I had done, the sins I committed. I remember barely escaping with my life. I remember exiling myself on Ilum. Then I remember Kali picking me up and I had been back with the galaxy ever since.
I just wish I could remember the important things. I know I did her wrong, I just don't know how I can ever fix it.

*The fact that Lee has a huge gap in his memory is news to Astefan. They hadn't had much opportunity to catch up since being reunited.*
"I don't know what to tell you, man. Maybe if you talked to a Consular they'd be more help. A Consular other than Master Vrook, I mean. I know it's a hard thing to deal with, but I don't think Monica would want you to beat yourself up about it. She'd want you to focus on the good times you had together, and not on... all this."

*Lee shakes his head.*
Master Vandar was good with this sort of thing, you know. He passed on some of it to me, but I really wasn't the best student for it. But him? He was a genious on the subject. He definently could have helped. I just don't know if there are any others left in the Order with that kind of skill.
*He smiles, thinking about Monica for a moment. He could see that pretty face of hers now, smiling at him, that hair of hers tossed slightly by Dantooine's light breezes. It felt like a whole other life time ago, but she was the most beautiful thing in this universe the Force could gift him with as far as he was concerned. Yeah, he had to admit, Astefan was right. She wouldn't. But Lee couldn't get around the fact that he brought all this upon them. And the fact he didn't even know why, that hurt.*
Yeah...she wouldn't. Still, that doesn't change some of the facts.
*Lee left those works hanging in the air for a moment before speaking again.*
Well. Zeltros awaits us. My padawan needs a new hand. He's going to need to be 100% and have every advantage available if he hopes to go round two with some mandalorians.
*Of course Lee wasn't particularly worried about himself. Lee had some of the greatest trainers in various forms of combat. He could pretty much adapt to the situation quickly against most enemies. Sabers, blades, blasters, hand to hand. Lee had sufficient training in all aspects. Garrett, and even Astefan, probably hadn't had such luck. Then again, it might not have been their forte. Still. Lee? He knew which direction he was headed after Garrett would become a knight. There was no mistaking Lee was confident that he could handle himself in whatever type of fight may break out. It was Astefan and, more importantly, Garrett that he was worried about. He saw how well Garrett did against them and Astefan he didn't really know how he'd manage it. He was a very proficent Makashi practicioner. But would he get the difference between fighting one on one blade to blade with a sith or force user and fighting mandalorians?*
*Lee takes control and lowers the shuttle planetside.*

*The True Cake lands at the Zeltros docking port. Lee stands up and looks at Astefan.*
I better get my padawan. From here, we should split up. You find the parts you need for Garrett's hand. I'll take Garrett to find the parts he'll need. We'll then meet at a local cantina. That's about the best place to find out what's been going on in the galaxy. We're three guys who've been out of touch with galactic events for quite some time. Specifically I want to know what is up with mandalorians stealing Jedi.
That sound good?

"Yeah, that's fine, except that I don't have a lot of credits for buying parts or tools. Also I need to have a closer look at Garrett's hand before you leave, so that I know what I have to work with and what I'll need to get. And you should probably be more specific about where to meet. Doesn't this planet have at least one cantina on every block or something?"

*Lee taps his chin. Details. He usually forgot the little details.*
Alright. Credits, you said?
*Lee reaches into one of his pockets and pulls out a small pouch. He gives Astefan some credits ranging in the five digit range.*
I always manage to keep some pocket change on me. That should be sufficient to repair Garrett's hand, I hope. Now as for cantinas...I imagine you'll finish up before me. Finding lightsaber parts, much less the right ones, will be tricky. Just find the nearest cantina to this docking port and comm me with directions. As for talking to Garrett, let's go get him.
*Lee leads Astefan to Garrett.*

*Astefan is familiar with Lee's connections and is therefore not entirely surprised when he is casually handed about 25,000 credits. He merely raises his eyebrow as he sees the amount.*
" 'Pocket change' huh? Well yes, this ought to cover costs quite nicely."
*The two of them return to the cargo hold where Astefan had left Garrett.*
"Hey man, lemme get a closer look at your hand real quick. I'm about to go and try to find something I can use to replace or repair it, but I need to know what I have to work with first. Where'd you get your current hand and who installed it?"

*Garrett stands as his master and Astefan enter the hold*
Oh yeah of course mate.
*Garrett tears off the synthetic skin material to expose his hand more to his mechanic. Most of the damage was in his palm area where he caught the vibroblade.*
I got it on Dantooine. Bao-Dur made it for me way back when.

*Astefan inspects Garrett's hand carefully, murmuring to himself and taking mental notes. He had expected to be able to improve greatly on Garrett's existing hand, but he has to admit that he is impressed. Bao-Dur's work is every bit as good as his reputation.*
"Hrmm, yes, very good workmanship. Shame we can't just repair it. But fortunately for you there is no damage to the part where the mechanical meets the biological."
*He grins at Garrett.*
"I'm sure you will appreciate not having to redo that part. Also it means I won't have to buy any anasthetic for you! Well, that's all I needed. Are we off, then?"

*Lee watches the exchange between Astefan and Garrett silently. When Astefan finally asks if they can go, Lee nods and speaks up.*
Yeah. Go ahead and do what you need to do Astefan. You know my comm channel for when you're done.
*He turns to Garrett.*
While Astefan is off getting parts to work on your hand, we're going to scroung around this planet for some lightsaber parts for your construction. I admit...doing this on Zeltros will be a touch difficult. It's not like planets that have an active Jedi or Sith presence, so they aren't readily available in any old shop.

"I'll keep an eye out for lightsaber stuff too. As long as you've got a good crystal, you can use all kinds of stuff to make the rest of it if you're creative. See you guys later - and try to stay out of trouble!"
*Astefan heads to the ramp and exits the ship to explore Zeltros.*

*Lee grins and shakes his head. Garrett was right. Staying out of trouble was always the tricky part. Especially when it came to Lee. By this point Lee was doing his best to put the previous subject of Monica behind him. He couldn't afford to dwell on it. He had his moment and with any luck he wouldn't have another one like it any time soon.*
Let's head out then.
*Lee exits the ship with Garrett.*
