(OOC: Time to get this going! Only 3 months later...)
Just over 6 days earlier&hellipfrom now that is.
*The area of Wild Space between Nar Shaddaa and Tatooine is a dangerous route to take and Kathaesis was no hyperspace explorer. That's not to say that she didn't take shortcuts, rather than follow the main hyperspace lane from Nar Shaddaa up to Periphery then across to the Perlemian near Centares, she usually skipped over to the Corellian Run at Nubia via Ruusan and Manaan. The thing is, she hadn't yet noticed the damage to the hyperdrive caused when she made the rushed jumps to Arkania. Well, they were armour-clad, blaster-wielding lunatics.*
*alarm* Warning, hyperdrive reactor control systems report 6 errors and one critical fault. Nav-computer will disengage hyperdrive within 5 parsecs to prevent damage.
*Kathaesis is woken up from her bunk with a start but manages not to hit her head on the durasteel bulkhead. She could have sworn it was only 2 minor errors when she set off. She gets out of the bunk and walks into the cockpit. The red pulsing screen in the centre draws her attention first. She saw where the automated systems were diverting to: a large empty quadrant of deep space as isolated as the limited time and power could manage.*
"Great, not even on Tatooine and things are going wrong. Visquis will not be pleased."
*There is a quieter alarm as the Ashen Light literally drops out of hyperspace into utter blackness. The engines are ticking over quietly, everything is working mostly okay apart from the hyperdrive. In the middle of nowhere.*
~Okay, how the frak am I supposed to fix the hyperdrive to get to Tatooine? Aha! Pure pazaak!~
*Kathaesis snaps her fingers with an idea. She taps the previously red screen of the navcom and brings up a view of the nearby systems. If she can fix the hyperdrive to hold up enough for a jump to the nearby Manaan then she should be able to get it repaired on there. She hopes that the diagnostics will be able to identify what is wrong; she only has some basic repair skills due to relying on lackeys to fix any trouble. If she survives through this mission then she ought to pester Visquis for someone to teach her more repairing techniques.
The diagnostic reveals that one of the hypermatter feeds for the hyperdrive has become seriously weakened. If it were to rupture whilst the hyperdrive was active, the ship could "implode catastrophically in the temporal state as well as the physical". Kathaesis figures that this is a bad thing. All it would take was to bypass the electronic shut-off and physically seal the feed off. She would then have to resort to using the horribly slow backup but at least it would get her there. The datapad just says to use a fusion cutter to seal the feed at a designated point. Of course, this means Kathaesis has to get down into the crawlspace under the cells to do it. She pops open the hatch in front of the cell door and crawls in.*
~Ugh, it'll take a day to get to Manaan now. It's slower than the rough 2 hours from Ruusan normally but, I suppose it's faster than the several years it would take via the ion engines.~
*It takes nearly an hour of carefully applying an intense heat with the fusion cutter to seal the duranium feed before Kathaesis is sitting in the cockpit again ready to set the ship to slowly jump to Manaan. The Ashen Light tentatively builds up the reactor pressure, much slower than normal, before releasing it in a sudden flash. The soon-to-be Hutt assassin breathes a sigh of relief as she opens her eyes to the blue blur of hyperspace, filtered to be conceivable for her eyes and mind. She gets up from her seat and heads back to her bunk to sleep off the remainder of the slow journey.*
