OOC UPDATES November 16th, 2009 I was informed by a member that there are several ads with audio tracks that are causing annoyance on the IE. Shortly thereafter the admins received the following message from Proboards Support: This issue should be resolved shortly, please bear with us as Proboards works to solve this problem.

I spoke with Tomias Shoryu's player's brother over AIM yesterday. It seems that Tomias was offered a job in Japan for six months. It is unlikely that he will be able to be on the site while there. His brother apologizes for his sudden disappearance, apparently it was a spur of the moment type thing where they offered it to him and he had to be there in person to accept the job within only a few short days.

Proboards have worked out a solution with the advertisers to remove the audio ads and they should no longer appear. In the unlikely event you do find one, please take a screen capture of it and report it to an admin; they should all be gone by now.

28 th November, 2009 I've found a solution for those of you getting annoyed by those spaces between the third and fourth letter in links like so: blah blah Inf inite Empire(blah blah Infinite Empire[/noubbc][/noubbc] ) The simple solution is to put a space at the start of the link, like so: blah blah Infinite Empire (blah blah Infinite Empire)It looks a little odd having the space before it showing up as a link, but not as much as having the space in the middle of the word. I have tried to find some other fix for this but to no avail. Do note that it only puts the space in occasionally. Swapping the space around, as in the second example, will ensure there is no space in the middle of the word—no matter what.

26th April 2010 We probably should have mentioned it earlier but, in addition to the admin contact details in the Faction Leaders thread, we have a staff email. infiniteempirerpg@googlemail.comYou should only really need to use it if you cannot access the forum at all because we check it about once a week. We (will) use it for contacting affiliates and other forum business, including notifications to inactive, 0-posts accounts if we are cleaning out old accounts.

27th May 2010 ProBoards have announced an exciting (well, not really, but you get the idea) feature! The Global LoginWhat this feature does is let you "login" to all your accounts on all Proboards forums that you are a member of. All you need to do, is create a global login using a valid email and password. You then can add each account from each forum you are on, even if you have multiple accounts on one forum like many of us do. You can then see if they have any new PMs and you can then just click on one of your accounts and it will take you to that forum automatically logged into the account you clicked. This makes it much easier to change between multiple accounts. View a screenshot of it in action HERE. Read the official announcement HERE.

17th June 2010 It seems like ProBoards is sneaking in some of the V5 features early. Trust me, it's going to be fully released soon. Anyway, if you hover over a thread listed in a board it will now show a tooltip with the first few lines of the first post. It's...kinda useful. Also, There's An App For ProBoards. You can have a free "lite" version that lets you view everything like new posts and PMs and then for $2.99, you can have the full version that lets you post and send PMs as well. See the official page for more info.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD PROBOARDS, CAN'T YOU SPACE THE NEW FEATURES OUT A BIT?!
Yes, another new feature. This one seemed rather important to make note of, however. You should all see a new link in the bottom right corner of posts.
Report to Mod - Link to Post - Back to Top Logged
We've never actually had anyone PM us with complaints about other players so we don't know how much use this will see but it makes things easier for everyone. Essentially, if you report a post with this link, it gets flagged in the administrator's control panel as well as showing a pop-up (similar to the PM alerts) to all online Staff members. We can then review the post and take appropriate action.
Of course, this gives you the opportunity to spam us rather lavishly, not that any of you would do that, you're a moderator's dream. It goes without saying that this feature should only be used for reporting rule violations and/or TOS violations (<=evil), NOT for trivial matters like a disagreement with a member or a plea for replies/attention, use PMs for disagreements and feel free to start a thread in the OOC section if you want get some people to RP a storyline with you.

26th August 2010 With all the new features released by ProBoards recently, it seems like V5 is just around the corner. So, with that in mind, we're starting to make a series of changes to the forum in anticipation. The first that you may have noticed is a change in loading priorities so that you can start reading the page while the coding implements itself (mainly while waiting for the ads to load). Secondly, the old copyright bar has been replaced with the "Quick Reference Links" bar to give you easy access to info like fleet numbers, text colors, the galaxy map and so on. All the copyright information is now contained in the post linked to in bold at the end of the QRL bar. Finally, the most exciting of the changes, is the integration of our Facebook Page in the Affiliates box. We plan to use this to increase awareness of the forum on Facebook as well as keep you updated about the forum while using Facebook. Recently (read:TODAY) ProBoards showcased a new format for the ads, this time as a roughly 400x400 square ad below the main menu (welcome table) alongside a personal recent posts list. This will be an option soon that we will decide on whether to implement as we will have to have the ads below the welcome table to comply with the TOS anyway. We've asked ProBoards staff about how it could be integrated with the current welcome table with pleasing responses. As always, if you have any suggestions or feedback then we'd really appreciate hearing it. Just PM any of the admins or send us an email.

4th September 2010 Have you ever used the Search button at the top? The in-built ProBoards search feature is appalling. So we've chucked it out of the window and made our own Google-powered version. You can get to it using the same Search button (many thanks to Wormopolis for helping with that integration) and search every post that isn't in a hidden or password protected board. Allegedly we'll be getting a better search feature in V5 but hopefully this should be an improvement until then. You can also search in/exclude specific boards. For example, to search for "lightsaber" in the Anchorhead board on Tatooine, you would search for: lightsaber "board=tatooineanchorhead"You can replace 'tatooineanchorhead' with any board ID you want (to find the ID, go to the board and look for whatever is after 'board=' in the URL). You can also exclude the board by using -"board=tatooineanchorhead" with the - before the quotation marks. As always, if you have any questions about a feature of the site feel free to fire me a PM.

The "Karma" feature in everyone's miniprofie has been changed to a more Star-Warsy theme. It is now called "Alignment." Rather than clicking "Exalt" or "Smite" to rate a players posting quality, we now have the options of rating in terms of "Light" or "Dark." Simply click the "Light" link if you think the character has gained Light Side Points (in KotOR terms), or click "Dark" if you think they have gained Dark Side Points for each particular post.
Ideally, 100 is fully in the light and -100 is complete immersion in the Dark Side.
The Administrators can adjust Alignments as well to any number. So if you would like to request a certain starting alignment on your mini-profile, simply message one of us.

We've got a few cool new surprises headed your way courtesy of IE admins Alexander Organa and Caius Ordo. Here's a quick preview to whet your appetite: EDIT: As you should be able to plainly see, the main page has been reformatted considerably. Images have been assigned to each respective planet, which makes the site more enticing, cleaner , and hopefully more enjoyable for everyone. We are currently working on a way to make the main page more accessible for some players, as loading time for all the images may take time depending on your internet connection. Another side-effect of the images is that the 'Middle-Click' feature to open a new tab when clicking on a board is no longer available, we will be attempt to correct this in time as well. For now, we hope you all enjoy the new look and continue to have fun. Furthermore, as some of you may have noticed, we have reactivated Corellia, Mustafar, Vjun, and Yavin IV. Additionally the Character Subboards have been reorganized and are now directly accessible in the "Character Profiles" board.

Why did we put the date before? I don't know...Something interesting that came out of boredom in the chatbox. I counted all the post counts for threads that Facebook hadn't deleted in the old IE Facebook groups. So, without hesitation, the numbers (I did some other calculations) Total number on Facebook: 18,189 Total number of IC posts here: 11,784 Combined: 29,973 Average per day (the IE is 4 years old this month, so 4 years was used): 21 Other interesting fact; the average post count on ProBoards has been as high as 18 and dropped to 11, it's risen up to 15 since then. Can we get it to 21? Who knows? full details

I know the last update was about post counts but I saw this in the forum analytics (in case anyone else asks me, it's an admin feature, sorry) and thought you might want to hear it.
The maximum number of posts we've had in one day was something like 48. Yesterday (the 8th) we absolutely hammered that and set an amazing new record of 95 posts in 24 hours. On a similar note, we had nearly 150 unique visitors (the guest count above the chatbox is normally an over-estimate, especially with Googlebots) and a new record for page loads of just over 2.5K.
Even since the last post, the average post count has gone up one to 16 which, compared to the history of the forum, is very good. Keep up the good work people!

If you're a Jedi player you'll want to be reading this! We've made a few changes to the Jedi ranking system, mainly for the higher end of the ranks but they're something you'll all want to think about. Starting off, we've renamed Jedi Youngling to a less ambiguous Jedi Trainee. The logic behind this is that "Youngling" is an odd term to use when only a few of the new Jedi are actually children. The next main change is that the High Jedi General rank at 800 is now simply Jedi Master. Given that the usage of "High Jedi General" was picked up from the Clone Wars era stuff, we've decided to make Jedi Master the highest rank one can obtain short of being the Grand Master. Replacing the 3 prestige classes that were at 600 ( Master, Watchman & Weapons Master) is now something we're calling specializations. Once you reach 600 points and have been Knighted, you can choose your rank from a total of 9 different choices. These specialisations are to show that, once a Jedi has passed Knighthood, Jedi will often become experts in one particular field or dedicate themselves to a particular aspect of their duties. I think it'll make more sense when you see the descriptions of the specializations, so I've quoted them below. Archivist: Jedi dedicated to gathering and preserving historical and academic artefacts, they are intimately knowledgeable in the history of the Jedi. Negotiator: A public face of the Jedi that can be relied upon for resolving conflicts through non-violent means. Negotiators often act as a link between the Order and the Senate. Seer: A Jedi highly proficient in advanced Force powers capable of seeing Force Visions and able to interpret them to find the meaning behind them. Shadow: Often working behind enemy lines, Shadows infiltrate Sith ranks with the objective of extracting information and eliminating rising threats. Watchman: Filling a wide array of roles, Watchmen are responsible for monitoring and protecting specific areas of the galaxy Vanguard: Removing problematic element when scouting the battlefield, Vanguards report directly to the military itself and provide feedback and support during military operations. Weapon Master: A Jedi with expertise in using a wide array of weapons, they are often sent on missions with other Jedi when the risk of danger warrants their advanced skills. Enforcer: In a similar role to the Negotiator, an Enforcer will assist law enforcement in bringing down criminal sydicates and other conspiracies against peace when words fail. Ace: Highly skilled at the controls of a ship and able to create strategies both offensive and defensive, Aces provide support for the Republic Navy during fleet operations. The aim with these is that there will be more variety in the higher ranks of the Jedi, as well as give you a chance to develop your character in a more direct way. You won't have to worry about this for now as this doesn't affect a lot of players just yet, it's something to bear in mind for the future. There were 5 people who needed a specific change in rank, and I've already sorted things out with 3 of those characters and PMed the other 2. So if you aren't either of those two then you can carry on as normal. For full details, see the ranking information thread.

This was originally sent out to all members via PM on 1st May 2012
IMPORTANT NOTICE Time Jump As it was discussed and agreed upon by the active players, all roleplaying has now jumped forward by one year. The current year is 3938 BBY (or 3,938 years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope). A list of events spanning the gap has been written for everyone to catch up on and can be found here. The event list has also been temporarily set as an announcement. You will be able to access it on any page where threads can be seen. Everyone is now free to roleplay following the time jump. A few players have requested to finish scenes from prior to the jump, this is perfectly acceptable and encouraged. But with exception to scenes started prior to May 1st, all roleplaying should now take place in the new time frame. Rule Updates Along with the time jump came a complete overhaul of the IE Rules and Regulations. They have been significantly trimmed down and simplified. The staff recommends you reacquaint yourselves with them at your earliest convenience. Notation Changes It was decided in a public discussion between all members to alter the notation used in the IE to a more universally accepted format. The new notation format are considerably different from the IE's previous format and is now listed in the Rules and Regs rather than its own thread. The changes are listed here for everyone's convenience: • All in-character posts should be written in: (1) proper English, (2) present tense, (3) the third person. • All dialogue should be separated from the narrative by a new line and be enclosed in "quotation marks". • When speaking over a comlink/hologram (and, in rare cases, the Force), speech should be enclosed in ::double colons:: • To indicate a non-Basic language, «double less/greater than signs» should be placed around the English speech. • Character thoughts should be in italics and either embedded in the narrative or separated like dialogue. • Colored text may only be used for indicating NPC characters' dialogue within your post. • The names of Force powers can be highlighted with bold text.Ranking and Advancement Another change that was discussed and decided by public opinion was a complete rework of the ranking system and the method by which characters advance in the IE. Rather than using a 1000-cap point scale where characters had to request points for all of their RPing, we have trimmed this down to 10 levels. Information on the new ranking system can be found here. Characters now have an opportunity to "Level Up" at certain points in the game. The Level Up process has been designed so that the entire community can be involved and feedback can be freely given. Please look at our new Leveling Up thread in the Advancement board for more information. Planets As you may have already noticed, a number of the planets are missing. This too was a result of a forum discussion and it was decided that in the interest of encouraging character interaction that some planets would be removed for the time being. All the former planets can be re-added in the future should players wish to roleplay on them. To reactivate a planet simply PM a staff member. All planets are listed on our Galaxy Map. Visual Tweaks Since we were changing everything else around, it was decided to give the IE a bit of a makeover as well. A vast amount of coding has been changed and rewritten to streamline the site and all Reference threads have been significantly modified to be uniform in appearance. Staff In addition to everything else, the staff members have been shuffled around. Josh Nayayen will continue to take lead on the Jedi Faction while Darth Sjena has replaced Exar Kun for the Sith. Additional duties are listed on the updated staff list. Forum Discussion Board As it has been mentioned, the vast majority of these changes were brought about by public forum-wide discussion. All members were able to voice their opinions and suggestions and together we all helped to make the IE a better and more fun roleplaying environment. Because of this success the staff has elected to remove their own private discussion board in favor of a public one where all changes or suggestions to the IE can be discussed publicly with the entire community. You can find this new discussion board under the OOC board here. Final Word The staff would like to thank everyone that participated and helped with these changes. There will be free cake in the OOC board. As always, we wish you "happy roleplaying" and may the Force be with you all. - The IE staff
