Sylvar listed off what comprised a lightsaber followed by what the ceremonies were that occurred in conjunction with the assembly of it. As with officially becoming her padawan, there were suppose to be ceremonies that accompanied it. However, given their current location and the current state of the Jedi Order, that was made more than a little impossible. Then the trials of knighthood, the trials of skill, courage, flesh, spirit and insight. Finally, Sylvar brought up the issue of location.
It had crossed Jefardi's mind before, that they really didn't have a set destination now that Sylvar's purpose for heading to Coruscant was somewhat null now.
Then she asked a question that Jefardi hadn't considered in almost a year, how exactly WAS going to help the Lorrdians? What he started out with, helping to free themselves from the Argazdans, however...the specifics of that were something he had never worked out. He had become so focused on the part of finding training that he had put into the back of his mind.
"I wanted to free them from the Argazdans....although the means by which to do that...I don't fully know." Jefardi admitted sheepishly.

For the first time since she'd heard it, Sylvar considered the darker side of her padawan's leading goal. To free an entire people was a noble goal indeed, and there were many ways to do it—none of them fast nor romantic nor remotely like how the holos portrayed such situations—but the goal also lent itself towards intense darkside potential. For what more direct way to free one people was there than to destroy their captors?
The Cathar decided she'd need to research this topic a bit more before pressing her padawan on the topic further. No point in pursuing him down a mental path that he'd already admitted he'd not investigated. She nodded.
"Alright. I'd like you to meditate or just think about that in the near future. Don't feel pressured to come up with a conclusion—that sort of mission is something that spans a lifetime if not several—but just think about it. At some point later," she said, stressing the word, "I'd like to hear more about what you know of the Lorrdians, the Argazdans, the nature of their relationship and history, and how this species-wide enslavement came to be."
"In the meantime," she said, stirring her tea about with a twirling finger and the Force. "What are you most interested in learning first? At this point we've already started on things which are usually left for later in the training and we've established that your training will be less than formal. At some point we will need to land and be off your ship for some of the training. I fear your cargo hold is too small and the confines of a ship in space is a poor venue to teach some powers and for you to use them for the first time."

OOC: Oh man, its been...like a week since I last posted...this shouldn't even be possible. Time to go grind out three posts that I owe.
---
Sylvar commented on his...lack of real plans, but didn't push the issue, saying it would be something to focus on later, and to talk to her after he had done more research and thought more on the matter.
Switching subjects, she asked what he was most interested in learning first, while pointing out that this training was not going to be the most..formal of Jedi education, and that the training would include the need for spaces larger than the cargo hold for certain powers.
Jefardi's mind went back to the conversation they had yesterday, when she had gone over the fact various abilities could be all used for the same effect, such as moving an object. Then there was also the fact she had talked about Force Sight, and he had attempted to do a singular exercise of that, with some limited success.
"Yesterday, you spoke of how there was a number of ways to move an object, such as the cup....which is the simplest way, for I would be interested in learning that."

Sylvar cocked her head and twitched an ear off to one side, pondering her padawan's adjective of "simplest." There were a number of ways it could be translated.
"That depends largely on your definition," she said after a moment. "The most all-encompassing would be telekinesis, and that is something that is often taught early. And many consider it one of the core skills any Jedi must know as it can be and often is applied to so many other things."
If telekinesis was something he wanted to learn first, the Cathar thought it a good starting point. That was one of the most basic beginner lessons often taught to and mastered by learners well before they were ever selected to be padawans. It was a lesson she also remembered from when she was new in her training.
"That would be a logical place to start, and a good one if that is an interest of yours."
With that matter settled, Sylvar finished her tea and set the simple metal cup down on the table between them.
"Would you be so kind as to return my cup to the galley station?" she asked, while sitting unmoving across from him.

Sylvar cocked her head at his answer, and went on to explain, well, to more precisely put it, give answers to what the 'simplest' was. Telekinesis, it seemed, was the building block, or a foundation type ability, one that most Jedi learned first.
Well, that's convenient Jefardi thought, I guess, I picked lucky...I WAS going for the easiest place to start at. Even Sylvar seems to agree that it would be the logical place to start.
Then she asked him to put her cup away. A little confused as to why she was asking him, instead of doing it herself, since she was more than likely able to do so, he nodded, saying "Sure". It is probably because she doesn't know where the washing unit in the galley is...this is a odd ship to be sure. Then again, its odd for me, because I had never been on a large Republic ship before this one...or it could just be odd period. and then got up and, picked up the cup, and started to rinse it off, getting the remnants of tea out of the cup before putting it into the tableware washer unit.

As her padawan rose and left the table, Sylvar gave a thin smile of entertained disappointment. Jefardi had missed the point of her request. But perhaps he'd catch on.
When he returned near the table, Sylvar waved away in the direction of his chair, "pulling" it out for him with the Force. Then, with her chin rested on her steepled fingers, she looked at him appraisingly.
"So tell me. When you have used the Force to made things in the past, what do you experience? Do you think of something specific or feel a particular sensation or visualize something consistently?"

Returning to the table, Jefardi found Sylvar with a faint vestige of a smile on her face before she moved his chair out, as if to pull the chair out for him.
Well that was nice he thought before sitting down on it, and pulling up to the table.
Sylvar then asked what he experienced when he used the Force in the past, specifically for a sensation or visualization he did.
His eyes wandered upwards towards the ceiling as he thought, before he started to answer;
"Its like..I feel a sense I shouldn't be feeling. Like if I close my eyes, and attempt to move something, I get a sense that it is there, when I know I shouldn't be feeling it, or be able to preceive where it is."
Pausing, he realized that he didn't really answer Sylvar's question.
"It feels like...I guess water would be the best word, something that has flow, yet can be still."

|
|
Post by Sylvar on Jun 10, 2013 22:59:56 GMT -5
That was nicely tangible.
"Have you ever pushed that feeling when you're experiencing it? Instead of thinking 'I shouldn't be able to feel this,' have you tried really embracing it?"
If he had a water-like sensation when manipulating the Force that would give an excellent mental pneumonic for the exercise. It also gave Sylvar an idea.
When they put down somewhere, she would have to seek out a river or a lake. She had a mental image of training her padawan to really tap into his telekinesis by making his mental image a reality. If he visualized water when attempting to move things, she thought it likely that attempting to move something while he was in water would make the effort visible, much like iron filings on a piece of flimsy could make the invisible patterns of magnetic force visible. The more she thought about it, the more she liked the idea. She didn't know how much of a visual learner Jefardi was, but most humanoid species responded well to intangible, invisible things made visible.

Pushed that feeling? That was an odd choice of words to Jefardi, not making much in the way of sense, the second bit of her response did make sense.
Have I embraced it before? This will be a confusing answer.
"Yes and No"
Shifting in his seat, he went on,
"I've pursued it before, but its something that is incredibly hard for me to get a grasp of, and it usually involves me driving that feeling away when I do try and study that feeling in detail."
Struggling for a moment to try and make his point, Jefardi added,
The thing that it reminded him of was the small blind spot that the average humanoid eye has, which is the to four percent off to the left from the center of sight. The more you chase it, the farther away it seems to get.
"When I don't try and pursue the feeling, but simply let it fade, it lasts a whole lot longer, and in fact is a interesting...'sense' for lack of a better word. Yet its always maddening when I do that, because it fades past usefulness after a short while."

Sylvar nodded, thinking, as Jefardi spoke. She realized her choice of words were likely not the greatest, but it did seem that her padawan got the jist of what she had been meaning. Even better, he seemed to have experienced the differences between at least two types of interactions with the Force.
"I don't know what your planet is like, but here's something that might help you," the Cathar said, basically talking as things came to her mind.
"When I was a kit, I would try to watch some of the songbirds that lived in my village's home tree. But when I stared at them, they would quickly get nervous and fly away. But I learned after a while that if I sat near them with them just in the corner of my eye and looked like I was doing something else, they would stay and keep singing. I would do that a lot and little by little I would notice more details about them. It took longer since I wasn't looking directly at them, but I wound up learning more since I didn't drive them away. When I got older, I found that if I tried mimicking them while I sat not looking at them, they would not only stay longer, they would stay and sing longer if I got the mimicking right."
During a pause in her story-telling, she paused, biting her lower lip momentarily.
"Perhaps for you, at least at this early stage, the Force is like that. Next time you connect with the Force, try 'looking' at it from the corner of your 'minds eye' and after a while try to engage it in little ways."
She didn't know if she was making any sense to him. Hers was a culture which was very engaged with storytelling, so speaking in analogy was almost second nature to her. Added to that was the fact it was hard to describe the Force and how to interact with and us it to someone; not only was it vastly personal, but also almost completely intangible.
Eventually, however, Sylvar cleared her throat in a "moving on" sort of way and shifted topics.
"We are still left with the issue of a destination however. If you do not have one in mind, I may have a possible destination where we could eventually begin your combat studies."

OOC: Finally getting around to posting. I'm going to be doing like one post a day until either A. I run out of posts, or B. until people start posting back. In the case of B, I'll start doing two posts a day....this may be on the short side for a post. --- Sylvar described songbirds in the village she grew up in, and how she noticed details about the songbirds but not focusing directly on them. By learning from the songbirds, she was able to keep the songbirds in their spot for longer. Or something. It was a bit odd for Jefardi, he had never heard of songbirds before, but he assumed that they were birds that sang or had songs written about them, either way, they were important. At the very least, they sang given that they apparently did so for Sylvar.
She then linked it back to his usage of the Force, and how if he didn't 'stare' directly at it, or focus directly on his subject, it wouldn't be so...elusive.
Perhaps, but would that imply the Force is skittish? Or something thereabouts? Weird, but okay, its worth giving it a shot
Nodding, Jefardi listened as she went onto their current destination. Apparently she did have one in mind, which was good, considering that he didn't, at least not now.
"I do not mind, I don't have any destination to go to as of now, so where ever is the best for training is perfectly fine with me."
Shifting slightly in his seat, he then went on.
"As for not directly focusing....I will try that next time, and see if that works."

Ajjiaka stretched her arms blinking her eyes open. Suddenly it clicked, like a thermal detonation and she shot up into a sitting position. Her world spun for a few seconds and she placed her head in her hands.
How long have I been asleep?
She wondered, blinking a few times. She stood, walking to the refresher and splashed cool icy water onto the warm skin of her face. taking a towel she wiped it off and looked at her face in the mirror. She sighed and shrugged fixing her hair back into a pony tail. turning about she looked around her cabin. Stepping to the door she peered outside, wondering where Jefardi went. And the cat woman... with the plant. For how long had she left them alone? She had only meant to take a little nap as she was exhausted from prior shenanigans. As her footsteps neared Jefardi's room she heard voices in the lounge. Correcting her path, she neared them trying to pick up some of what was being said.
"...destination to go to as of now, so where ever is the best for training is perfectly fine with me. As for not directly focusing....I will try that next time, and see if that works."
She frowned. This was confusing and possibly troubling. Where was he going with this old woman? training? for what? focusing directly? or not... as it seemed. Frakking jibberish. Eavesdropping is only useful if appropriately done...
She stopped as she stepped into the lounge. Her eyes fell onto the woman and then Jefardi, resting on him, naturally.
"Sorry. I fell asleep."
She said simply.

OOC: Even though its Sylvar's turn next, I'm skipping over it, since I talked to her player, and said player it was cool. If that player wishes to subtract that statement, I CHALLENGE YOU TO A CONTEST OF PLAYING THE SONG OF MY PEOPLE!....or something of equal absurdity. --- As Jefardi finished his sentence about trying to not directly focus when he calls on the Force, he heard the soft padding of feet, followed by Ajjiaka entered the lounge. Turning his head, he watched her walk about and apologize for being asleep.
So thats where she was. I've been wondering why I haven't seen her for like...almost half a day....I wonder what she has been up to? Sleeping for the past half a day? I didn't know she was that tired
"Hey, was wondering where you were."
As he says that he notices her eyes staring at him. Is she expecting something....? Jefardi stares back at her, before something clicks in his brain.
"If you've been asleep all this time, you probably haven't eaten and I'm surprised that I'm not hearing your stomach viciously growling...would you like some food?" He asked, getting up from his spot and going to the galley.

Ajjiaka paced over to him and nodded.
"Yea, I am quite hungry. Thanks."
She thought about his comment and frowned.
"Well I wasn't asleep the whole time. I washed up too."
was her defensive response. She looked at the woman. Sylvar? Was it? She didn't really have much else to say to them, having come in during their conversation. She felt awkward, standing there, not knowing anything that had happened while she was asleep. Not to mention Sylvar hadn't said a thing since Ajay had walked in.

Ajjiaka walked over to Jefardi and thanked him. Then she proceeded, in a rather defensive manner to say that she had washed as well, and hadn't been sleeping the entire time.
Jefardi went making a breakfest sandwich for Ajjiaka as he thought;
Even if she wasn't asleep the entire time, I wonder why I didn't hear her or see her until just now...and it had to be longer than just half a day. Lets see... I didn't see her at dinner, or breakfest, well, until now...its almost ten or so now...so it was closer to three quarters of a day then just half a day.
Finishing making the sandwich he handed it to Ajjiaka as well as a glass of juice. After handing her a sandwich, he went to sit down where he had been sitting before she had gotten there.
It occurred to him that Ajjiaka quite possibly wouldn't know what had transpired with him for the past ...well since they left Nar Shaddaa really. To be fair, if she DID know, that would be a tad more concerning.

Ajjiaka stood, in an awkward silence, as Jefardi made her sandwich. She looked at him wondering why he wasn't really talking to her. It was almost like he didn't want her to be there, as if somehow whatever she had been doing while he was doing... whatever... had been something bad and unacceptable. She really hadn't done much, in fact she had taken a shower and gotten all washed up, sat around for a while, organized a few things in her room and then slept. It was hardly worth talking to him about it and yet, he seemed unsatisfied with her explanation. She sighed and took the sandwich and juice as he handed it to her. At least he was always good to her, that was new.
She walked and sat down near him and began eating. Apparently she was hungry due to the shoveling of food she was doing. As soon as she finished her sandwich she drank the glass of juice and took the cup back to the kitchen. She then returned to her seat and sat again in an awkward silence.
Finally she spoke
"So what have you been doing?"

OOC: I meant to include this in the previous post, but Sylvar's player has given me permission to get the character out of the scene...I was going to add it prior to this post, but I forgot. Sorry. Anywho, without further ado, here is a post. --- Sylvar politely excused herself from the table and went to her room, leaving Jefardi to answer the question. After handin Ajjiaka some food, she had sat down and ate, in silence. Not awkward silence to Jefardi, just silence. The question, in of itself, was short, but the answer was quite long. A lot had happened since he had last seen her. A whole lot.
Where to start is the real question. Should I just start to explain every single thing right away or...perhaps I should just start to and see if she cares to hear more. She probably will, considering that she seemed interested in it when I brought it up to her as we were leaving the wheel.
Finally deciding on what to say, Jefardi's face cracks something of a small, faint smile as he says "I finally found the Jedi."
Realizing that didn't exactly make a ton of sense, he added,
"Well, to be more accurate a Jedi found me. Sylvar, she is a Jedi, it would seem."

Ajjiaka looked at him.
"Oh, well that's good right? That means we don't have to go looking for them."
She looked down the hall where the feline woman had vanished down. A jedi. She seemed rather old, but she figured that a title like that wasn't something that dropped off when you got to a certain age. She wondered for a moment what it must be like to have a place in the world, to have a group that you belonged to. To have a true family, not the frakked up one she came from. She placed her hang on her chin, staring ahead. Then she blinked and looked back at Jefardi, giving him a smile.
"So what's the next step? Will she teach you what to do?"
She asked

OOC: ....*guilty face* so I owe posts. I owe like...four posts. Two of them longer than a week ago. I will try for two or three today. If I only get one done, I am sorry.

"Yup it's good!" Jefardi said eagerly. He was quite happy about it, and it was further dawning on him that his search was over. It had taken a long time, mostly because of the inconvenience of when he started to look for them.
Ajjiaka then asked what the next step was. This was something Jefardi was curious to as well. Sylvar had mentioned something about landing on a planet where there was enough room for combat training. That would mean some form of training with the fabled lightsaber, or so Jefardi assumed.
"She will, at least from what we discussed." Jefardi's brow creased with thought as he continued. "I think she is going to teach me something related to combat where ever we land...as for the present...she said she was going to teach meditation. That, and focusing...I have problem it seems with focusing, and keeping my focus going, at least all the times I tried to focus."

((ooc: My muse for human rps is very low, sorry.))
Ajjiaka nodded as she listened to him. It would be interesting to say the least. And it would give him something to do. But what was it exactly that she was supposed to do in the mean time? Jefardi had pressed her to give up her work as a spice smuggler, which was probably a good thing. Safer anyway. Yes, it was much safer to stay inside a ship all day but it was so much more boring. That swoop race had been good for her back on the planet but she still strived for something greater. With more training and focus she could easily race swoops well but...
She looked at Jefardi and blinked, realizing that it was certainly her turn to speak.
"Focusing, huh?"
She frowned. That didn't sound exciting in the least.
"You said something about when we land, where exactly are we going?"

Jefardi decided to check on the ship's progress, and started to head towards the cockpit. As he walked he read his datapad. Well not read so much as play enraged avivans. It was all the rage it seemed over the holonet over these games and the half a million successful clone of the original game. It had gotten to the point where no one actually knew what the original game was called.
Opening the door, Jefardi entered the cockpit. Sitting down at the console, he checked their progress. Currently they were passing through the Mytaranor sector.

When Sylvar "awoke" from her meditations, she was slow to regain her awareness of the room around her, the ship around the room, and the vastness of space around the ship. Her mental and spiritual—she still wasn't sure if Force connection counted as spiritual—attention was on her finished design.
The completed sand drawing was properly circular though had a band around the edge with spikes verging out like rays or points on a compass. They were not equal in length and not equally distributed as they would be on a compass. One ray was wide and thick, almost more like the point on a top rather than a compass ray, and pointing at her. This was becoming a reoccurring theme in her meditation mandellas. As usual, it was largely black and red; death and freedom.
New and more interesting however—her own impending mortality was not a new facet of her reality—was the ray pointing off at an angle. It was blue and yellow and orange and green, though in an uncharacteristically messy non-pattern of swirls. A cacophony of thought, chaos and emotion.
Peering at the ray with attentive ears and whiskers, the Cathar considered the potential future it might foretell. Learning, consideration, the possibility for mental growth, emotional turmoil, ignorance and conflict, warring passions, some unforeseen difficulty, chaos and unsettled waters.
Turning her attention away from the outer rays to the inside of the sand painting's design, Sylvar saw the patterns were balanced in content weight, though not the colors she'd used. Greens and blues dominated, with highlights of yellow.
After a few minutes of sitting in contemplation, the old Cathar rose shakily to her feet. She was careful not to disturb the sand as she would consider it for some hours if not days to come. In the mean time, something had impressed itself upon her consciousness as she'd been meditating. A destination she was being pulled towards by the Force. From what she could remember of her revelations happened across during her meditating, she thought it was a likely place to begin her new padawan's training. That's what it felt like anyway. For as clear as the Force liked being in some of her visions, it could be a learning ground for her.
Sylvar slowly made her way out of her cabin and into the body of the ship. She wasn't entirely sure where she was going, but Force Sight made it easy to locate Jefardi. She hadn't initially set out to find him, but somehow in her remaining meditation haze, he seemed like a good destination.
The old Jedi found him in the cockpit.
"Good evening, Jefardi," she said in greeting, though she had no real idea of if "evening" was accurate.
"Have you decided on a destination for us?"
